Belton-Honea Path (Honea Path, S.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 12 points, drop to four before the final whistle blew on a 21-17 victory over
Seneca (S.C.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Team BHP in the second quarter, the Bears were up 14-9 at the half.
Belton-Honea Path came into the game allowing 6.3 points per game. Seneca's 17 points were below their season average of 23.3 per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 64-28 win for BHP.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Honea Path school, which was coming off a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Daniel in its previous game.
Seneca (5-3) will play a AAA Region I game against West-Oak next week, while Belton-Honea Path (7-1) will take on Wren also in a AAA Region I game.
