The West Mesa Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Del Norte by a score of 47-44. West Mesa was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Del Norte apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marsai Martinez, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Martinez hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Monique Sena was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
West Mesa dropped their record down to 8-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Del Norte, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13.
West Mesa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-31 loss vs. La Cueva on the 9th. Del Norte has also already played their next game, a 46-31 victory against Manzano on the 10th.
