Bishop Montgomery will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Mary Star of the Sea, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Knights blew past the Stars 17-0 on Thursday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Bishop Montgomery got a great performance from Brooke Patterson as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Patterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Meridian Cordova, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Stinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Bishop Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Ramona Convent suffered their biggest loss since March 27th on Monday. They came up short against Mark Keppel, falling 16-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Aztecs: they've now lost five in a row.
Citlali Garcia led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Delicia Murillo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Bishop Montgomery's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ramona Convent, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Montgomery hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. However, it's not like Ramona Convent struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Bishop Montgomery's way against Ramona Convent in their previous meeting back in March, as Bishop Montgomery made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
