Softball Game Preview: Sherman Oaks CES Knights vs. Vaughn White Tigers

Sherman Oaks CES is a perfect 10-0 against Vaughn since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Knights will be playing at home against the White Tigers at 2:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Vaughn will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Sherman Oaks CES extended their winning streak to six on Wednesday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Taft. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Araceli Altamirano made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reagan Rosenthal, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Block, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

Sherman Oaks CES kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 17 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Vaughn got the win against Panorama on Thursday by a conclusive 27-17. The win made it back-to-back victories for the White Tigers.

Sherman Oaks CES' win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Vaughn, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Sherman Oaks CES beat Vaughn 17-13 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the White Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
