The Wellsboro Hornets on the road again on Thursday and play against the Athens Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th.
Wellsboro suffered their closest loss yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of North Penn-Liberty by a score of 45-43.
Meanwhile, Athens had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 66-38 win over Canton on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Athens has posted against Canton since December 19, 2018.
Athens' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Mosher, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Mosher has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Jacob, who scored 14 points.
Wellsboro dropped their record down to 8-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Athens, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Wellsboro strolled past Athens when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 46-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wellsboro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
