After a string of three wins, the Poudre Impalas's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their tough 57-35 defeat to Monarch might stick with them for a while. Poudre has struggled against Monarch recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Poudre lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kavi Voglund. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Poudre struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Monarch racked up 12 assists.
Monarch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sienna Williams, who scored 16 points along with eight blocks and seven rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Trobaugh, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Poudre now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Monarch, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Poudre won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Prairie View at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Prairie View is ranked 102nd, while Poudre is ranked 96th). As for Monarch, they will head out on the road to face off against Rocky Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Monarch likes a good challenge.
