Baseball Recap: Orofino Extends Winning Streak to 13

Orofino waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They put the hurt on the Priest River Spartans with a sharp 12-1 win. The Maniacs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.

Quinton Naranjo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Blake Barlow and Jaeger Tondevold did most of the damage at the plate: Barlow went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Tondevold went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Tondevold has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Bonner, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Orofino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Orofino's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Priest River, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Orofino will face off against St. Maries at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maniacs are facing the Lumberjacks at the right time seeing as the Lumberjacks are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Priest River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
