After both having extra time off, the Amherst Central Tigers and the Sweet Home Panthers will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th.
Amherst Central couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 54-36 bruising from West Seneca West back in December of 2023.
Even though Sweet Home has not done well against Hamburg recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. Sweet Home secured a 63-58 W over Hamburg. The win was just what Sweet Home needed coming off of a 77-35 loss in their prior contest.
Sweet Home's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Erin Clemens-Regan, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Clemens-Regan scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amber Murak, who scored 20 points along with three steals.
Amherst Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-1. As for Sweet Home, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1.
Amherst Central didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Sweet Home in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-49 win. Will Amherst Central repeat their success, or does Sweet Home have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
