The Rye Garnets's game on Friday was all tied up 18-18 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 57-50 loss to White Plains. Rye was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as White Plains apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.
Leading White Plains to victory were Sequoia Layne and Ineivi Plata. Layne scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, while Plata scored 18 points along with five assists and three steals. The matchup was Plata's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenna Austin, who scored five points along with three steals.
Rye's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for White Plains, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rye will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pelham Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. As for White Plains, they will head out on the road to face off against Greeley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
