The Americas Trail Blazers came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Alamogordo 48-31. The win was all the more spectacular given Americas' disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 106th in Texas, while Alamogordo is ranked 17th in New Mexico).
Americas was led to victory by AIDEN MARQUEZ and VINNIE VICENCIO. MARQUEZ scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while VICENCIO scored 11 points. The contest was MARQUEZ's fifth in a row with at least ten points. LAREON JOHNSON was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damiran Smith, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Bickham, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Americas' win bumped their record up to 18-1. As for Alamogordo, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Americas won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Franklin at 12:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Franklin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
