Basketball Recap: Omaha Northwest Takes a Loss

Omaha Northwest lost against Omaha North back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Omaha Northwest Huskies lost to the Omaha North Vikings on the road by a 60-44 margin. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, Omaha Northwest got some senior leadership from Abriya Watkins and Jessica Houston. Watkins dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Houston dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Houston's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Omaha Northwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Omaha North's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Akazja Foster, who posted ten points along with six boards and three steals. Foster is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Ayanna Hill, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points.

Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Omaha North, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8.

Omaha Northwest will face off against Lincoln High at 5:30 p.m. on February 4th. Lincoln High will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Omaha Northwest surely won't give up without a fight. Omaha North has already played their next match, a 56-54 loss against Papillion-LaVista South on the 31st.
