Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is 2-8 against Economedes since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Economedes Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 17-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-35 loss to Mission.
Hector Sanchez put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Rodriguez, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Economedes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 88-36 loss at the hands of Edinburg North. While losing is never fun, Economedes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1230th, while Edinburg North is ranked 259th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Nathaniel De La Garza, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Alexandro Zurita, who scored eight points.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-24 record this season. As for Economedes, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-19.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Economedes struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo was able to grind out a solid win over Economedes in their previous matchup back in January, winning 56-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
