Softball Recap: Mayfield Takes a Loss

Mayfield extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Duanesburg Eagles. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Chloe Jandik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Mayfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Byrns, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Duanesburg's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. The game was the first time they have beaten Mayfield on their field since May 10, 2017.

On Duanesburg's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Genevieve Rickert gave up only one earned run on one hit and racked up eight Ks. Rickert has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Harlee Manus was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Hailey Davis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Mayfield will take on Amsterdam at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.82 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Duanesburg, they will challenge Schenectady at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.5 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
