Bishop McNamara is 0-10 against Bishop O'Connell since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will square off against the Knights at 4:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Bishop McNamara put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand The Academy of the Holy Cross a 24-0 shutout. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Madison Stewart and Isabella Webb were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stewart tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Webb pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Stewart posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Stewart went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Webb got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Bishop McNamara got a massive performance out of Alyssa Scatliffe, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Scatliffe has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaslyne Ivey, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Bishop O'Connell put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Paul VI as they made off with a 10-1 win. Considering the Knights have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Bond was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Ari Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Bishop O'Connell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paul VI only posted an OBP of .222.
Bishop O'Connell's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop McNamara, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bishop McNamara has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bishop O'Connell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bishop McNamara might still be hurting after the 20-0 defeat they got from Bishop O'Connell when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
