The Connellsville Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Things were looking good for Connellsville after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Bethel Park by a score of 7-6. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Black Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kalyn Cole made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cali Leichliter, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thomas Jefferson). They put the hurt on Peters Township with a sharp 16-2 victory on Wednesday. With that win, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Aubrey Shaffer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season.
In other batting news, Thomas Jefferson let Ali Chalovich and Rylee Nemchek run wild. Chalovich went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Nemchek scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Olivia Stock was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Thomas Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Thomas Jefferson's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average this season. As for Connellsville, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Connellsville couldn't quite get it done against Thomas Jefferson when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 3-0. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
