Football Recap: Guntersville Skates Past Sardis with Ease

It was a proper cat-fight when Guntersville challenged Sardis on Friday. The Wildcats breezed past the Lions to the tune of 49-12. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won six in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Guntersville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Street Smith, who threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes, and also rushed for 34 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Smith has posted since back in September of 2024. 138 of Smith's passing yards were hauled in by Hudson Oliver.

Guntersville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sardis to a completion percentage of just 45%. Given Smith's standout performance, it's clear the Lions' secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Despite the loss, Sardis still got an impressive performance from Grant Coe, who rushed for 96 yards and one TD, and also threw for 97 yards and one touchdown.

Guntersville's record is now 4-0. As for Sardis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Guntersville will venture away from home to challenge Arab at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sardis, they will host Scottsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
