Georgia high school running back
Ty Cummings of
West Laurens (Dexter) is being credited with breaking the state's single-game rushing yardage record after piling up 615 yards in a 70-55 win over Baldwin two weeks ago.
Cummings carried 19 times and reached the end zone eight times on runs of 59, 81, 75, 53, 59, 59, 86 and 78 yards, respectively.
On the season, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior has 1,332 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has gone over the 200-yard mark in two other games this season, helping West Laurens go 6-0.
The previous record was established just last season by
Tyrese Woodgett of
Coffee (Douglas), who went for 605 yards in a November playoff game.
