Basketball Recap: Central Piles Up the Points Against Lamar

Central had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 27-point drubbing they dealt Lamar on Saturday. The Central Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Lamar Silver Foxes 67-40. That 27 point margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tazhir Webber, who posted 18 points and eight assists. Webber has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Myers, who had 21 points and five assists.

Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Lamar lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Messiah Sims, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamont Williams, who posted six points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Central has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Lamar, their record is now 3-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chesterfield at 8:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Lamar also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against C.A. Johnson at 8:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
