Munford is 2-8 against Brighton since May of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Munford got the win against Briarcrest Christian by a conclusive 12-1.
Ellie Kate Billings was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Joci Wilkins, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Brighton entered their tilt with Millington Central on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Trojans.
Laney Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aliya Garcia, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Braeley Lopez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Munford is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Brighton, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6-2.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Munford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Brighton struggles in that department as they've averaged .403. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Munford couldn't quite finish off Brighton in their previous matchup last Tuesday and fell 7-5. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
