Brush is a perfect 7-0 against Fort Lupton since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Beetdiggers will look to defend their home field against the Bluedevils at 7:00 p.m. Brush will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, everything came up roses for Brush against Sterling as the team secured a 42-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Beetdiggers, who have now won four games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Ritchie Bruno was his usual excellent self, rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Cassius Middlemist was another key player, gaining 81 total yards and three touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Brush was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 243 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 243 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Brush didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Eric Rico and Middlemist. Middlemist got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Lupton). They enjoyed a cozy 25-8 victory over The Academy on Saturday.
A big part of Fort Lupton's win came down to the chemistry between Josiah Gonzales and his top target Donte Lenox. Gonzales threw for 182 yards and a pair of TDs on only 16 passes while Lenox picked up 112 receiving yards and two scores. Lenox really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 78 yards.
Fort Lupton's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gonzales, Harold Mcclain, and Dylen Hofferber, who each picked up one sack apiece. Fort Lupton got some further help from Donovan Buschman: he forced one fumble and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Fort Lupton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Brush, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Brush has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 342.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Fort Lupton, though, as they've been averaging only 66.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Brush was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Lupton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 21-14. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Gonzales, who threw for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 69 yards on only nine carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Beetdiggers still be able to contain Gonzales? There's only one way to find out.
