The Monacan Chiefs entered their tilt with the Godwin Eagles with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Monacan enjoyed a cozy 58-39 victory over Godwin on Wednesday. Given Monacan's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Godwin is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monacan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amirah Washington, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Washington has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Trinity Jones, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Godwin still got an impressive performance from Lakelyn Bostian, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Reagan Nemeyer was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Monacan's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Godwin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5.
Monacan won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Huguenot at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Huguenot comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Godwin, they will head out on the road to face off against Freeman at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
