Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Pete Cantu and Michael Fuentes Lead Weslaco to Victory

The matchup between Weslaco and La Feria on Saturday hardly resembled the 39-22 effort from their previous meeting. The Weslaco Panthers strolled past the La Feria Lions with points to spare, taking the game 65-48. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Weslaco to victory were Michael Fuentes and Pete Cantu. Fuentes went 5 of 6 en route to 17 points, while Cantu went 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. Those 17 points gave Fuentes a new career-high. Lino Milano was another key player, putting up ten points.

Weslaco has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for La Feria, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Weslaco Panthers take on the Harlingen Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Harlingen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups. La Feria and La Joya will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Feria is facing La Joya at the right time seeing as La Joya is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
