The Herington Railroaders were the 50-38 winner over the Wakefield Bombers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Herington lost to Wakefield at home by a decisive 46-27 margin on Thursday. Herington found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post ten fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Herington had strong showings from Leslyn Kremeier, who scored 15 points along with three steals and two blocks, and Isabelle Ecklund, who scored three points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 55.6% of Herington's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wakefield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paige Smith, who scored 17 points along with three steals and two blocks. That makes it five consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Wakefield's points. Another player making a difference was Grace Rohr, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Herington now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Wakefield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.
Herington and Goessel will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Herington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Wakefield, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Solomon at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Solomon is coming into the contest with eight straight wins at home, so Wakefield is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
