This season hasn't been kind to the Lake Weir Hurricanes, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 41-30 loss to St. John Lutheran. Lake Weir was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as St. John Lutheran apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.
St. John Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Arisa Ford led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Ford set a new season high mark in blocks with three. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Sue Rice, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Lake Weir bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for St. John Lutheran, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Weir will stay at home for another game and welcome North Marion at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. St. John Lutheran will take on Oak Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Hall's defense has only allowed 24 points per game this season, so St. John Lutheran's offense will have their work cut out for St. John Lutheran.
