The Erie Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Brighton Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Erie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Erie will head out to face Brighton after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. The Tigers fell just short of Fairview by a score of 3-2. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Kaden Bertsch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. That earned run was his first of the season.
At the plate, Taylor McMaster made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Dillinger, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brighton). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Mountain Range a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Bulldogs not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024.
Austin Sickler made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Waltemath, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Nolan Engle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Brighton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Range only posted an OBP of .250.
Brighton's record is now 6-3. As for Erie, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Erie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Brighton struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Erie suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Brighton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
