Section 1 B recap Oct. 16, 2012
Putnam Valley's Mike Walsh rumbled for the longest rushing play in Section 1 B this season in his game against Kennedy Catholic last week. Walsh's team bested the Gaels as he sprinted for 76 yards on the play and finished with 94 in all.
Ardsley moved up to 217 from 333 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Edgemont 21-14.
Putnam Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Walsh threw for 108 and two touchdowns and John Meagle had 39 yards receiving. Tommy O'Sullivan helped Putnam Valley's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.
Ardsley's Carlos Monserrate and Gabe Kardish have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Monserrate has thrown for 747 yards this season, while Kardish, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 21 catches for 485 yards. Kennedy Catholic's Rob Yurkowski leads the league in rushing yards with 461.
A big matchup in Section 1 B this week will be when Croton-Harmon takes on Nanuet. The Tigers are currently in fourth, while the Golden Knights are in third.
Matt Mello's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in the league. The Tigers vanquished Severino Sangro's team 54-6 earlier in the week.
