The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will head out to take on the Libertyville Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games St. Charles East has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Things were looking good for St. Charles East after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Glenbard North by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Fighting Saints have suffered since June 1, 2024.
Makayla Van Dinther spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Addison Wolf was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Hayden Sujack, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Libertyville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Waukegan a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
Mckenna Weaver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Weaver was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Libertyville let Sofia Lombardo and Bella Zelenka run wild. Lombardo got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Zelenka went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lombardo has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Zombolo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Libertyville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for St. Charles East, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
