It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Liberty ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Seattle Prep Panthers 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Avery Huh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 20 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 20 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Isabella Rockey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Kaila Siu was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Liberty's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Seattle Prep, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Coming up, Liberty will square off against Roosevelt at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Roughriders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. Seattle Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
