Basketball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View lost against Nogales back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Desert View Jaguars lost 66-42 to the Nogales Apaches. The Jaguars just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Despite the loss, Desert View still got an impressive performance from Luis Felix, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. The match was Felix's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Samy Ishimwe, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Desert View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Leading Nogales to victory were Tito Fierros and Aidan Vasavilbaso. Fierros went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points and five steals, while Vasavilbaso had nine points and three steals. With that strong performance, Fierros is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Aaron Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Desert View's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Nogales, with the victory, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert View has already played their next contest (against Pueblo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Nogales will venture away from home to square off against Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cienega knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Nogales likes a good challenge.
