If the Longmont Trojans were feeling good off their 69-32 takedown of the Greeley West Spartans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Longmont took a 52-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Silver Creek on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Longmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Silver Creek is ranked 18th).
Longmont lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dominic Lombrano, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Kolby Holmes, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Silver Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabe Selby, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Luke Schmeeckle was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Longmont's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6. As for Silver Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Longmont will head out on the road to face off against Centaurus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Centaurus is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Silver Creek, they will be playing at home against Greeley West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greeley West is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
