The Canyon del Oro Dorados had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against Pueblo by a score of 61-53. Given Canyon del Oro's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Pueblo is ranked 269th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Will Dixion, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Mykael Nunez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Pueblo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Silverio Rivera, who scored six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Franco, who scored eight points.
Canyon del Oro's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Pueblo, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.
Coincidentally, Canyon del Oro and Pueblo will both be playing Salpointe Catholic the next time they take the court. Canyon del Oro will head out to face Salpointe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Pueblo will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
