The Covenant Christian Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 63-51 victory over Grace Prep. This was payback for Covenant Christian, who suffered a 76-59 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Covenant Christian found their leader in underclassman Aaron Turner, who scored 23 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Turner has scored all season. AJ Guerra was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
Covenant Christian's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Grace Prep, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covenant Christian will take on Pantego Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pantego Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 691st, while Covenant Christian is ranked 122nd). Grace Prep will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Lake Country Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Lake Country Christian has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
