Basketball Recap: Rise Academy Extends Winning Streak to Six

Rise Academy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.8 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came out on top against The Carmel School Wildcats by a score of 70-63. This was payback for the Guardians, who suffered an 83-68 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Rise Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevonte Atkins led the charge by putting up 21 points and seven rebounds. Atkins has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Seaborn, who posted 20 points and seven boards.

Rise Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now posted at least 23 assists in three consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why The Carmel School lost, don't look at Nicolo Passalacqua. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan Watson was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 15 points.

Rise Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for The Carmel School, they moved to 11-8 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Rise Academy will square off against Harrisonburg HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rise Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matchups -- so hopefully Harrisonburg HomeSchool likes a good challenge. As for The Carmel School, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-69 win against New Hope Academy National on the 29th.
