Carmel Christian is a perfect 3-0 against SouthLake Christian Academy since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Carmel Christian Cougars will look to defend their home field against the SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles at 1:00 p.m. SouthLake Christian Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Carmel Christian, who comes in off a win.
It was a proper cat-fight when Carmel Christian took on Piedmont on Thursday. Carmel Christian was the clear victors by a 26-2 margin over Piedmont. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Ryan Field made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Field was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Leyton Guhl was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six runs, and four RBI. Thomas Gaddy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one double.
Carmel Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Piedmont only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, SouthLake Christian Academy came up short against Gaston Christian on Friday, falling 13-5. The loss continues a trend for SouthLake Christian Academy in their meetings with Gaston Christian: they've now lost three in a row.
SouthLake Christian Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Rodesiler, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jackson Drayton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
SouthLake Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Carmel Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Carmel Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like SouthLake Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Carmel Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over SouthLake Christian Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 10-5.
