Rio Rancho extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 1 this week by beating Cibola, 52-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Rams.
Rio Rancho took down the Cougars 52-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Easton Bruere threw for 455 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 30 yards in the win.
Dominico Chavez was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 113 yards as Volcano Vista topped Cibola. Teammate Dorsett Valdez added to the ground attack by rushing for 16 yards.
Foley had a great week catching the football as the Rams defeated Judge Chavez's team. He caught nine passes for 207 yards.
Isaiah Perry made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hawks lost to Cleveland. The senior recorded one fumble and racked up 1.5 sacks.
Rio Rancho's Bruere and Foley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bruere has thrown for 2785 yards this season, while Foley, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 44 catches for 846 yards. Romell Jordan from the Storm leads the league in rushing with 1303 yards.
The marquee game in 5A District 1 this week will be the clash between the Rams and Cleveland. Rio Rancho comes into the matchup ranked third in the state, while Heath Ridenour's team ranks 11th.
The Rams' Ulises Astorga needs only 96 yards against the Storm next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 87 carries Astorga has accumulated 904 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Rio Rancho takes on Cleveland. The Rams have allowed 198 points this season, while the Storm have given up 203. Rio Rancho allowed 21 points last week as it topped the Cougars.
Cleveland made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,655 from 3,117. The advance stemmed from a 56-41 victory over Volcano Vista last week.
