The Sylmar Spartans will face off against the Monroe Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Monroe will be up against a hot Sylmar squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. Everything went the Spartans' way against Van Nuys on Friday as they made off with an 18-2 win.
Cynthia Valadez and Analee Morales made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Valadez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Morales tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Valadez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Valadez went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Morales went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Katherine Godoy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Maya Salceda was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Sylmar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Monroe got the win against Canoga Park on Friday by a conclusive 20-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Sylmar's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Everything went Sylmar's way against Monroe in their previous matchup back in April, as Sylmar made off with a 17-5 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
