Madison is 9-1 against Milby since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Madison Marlins will head out on the road to face off against the Milby Buffs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Madison focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
Madison has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 28 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 87-46 win over Austin at home.
Madison's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Avalos, who scored 29 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. The contest was Avalos' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Whylie, who scored 21 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, Milby slipped by Wisdom 43-42 on Monday. Given Milby's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while Wisdom is ranked 1125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Milby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darius Owens, who scored 12 points along with 3 steals. The game was Owens' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Delani Pestaina, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
The losses dropped Madison to 5-4 and Austin to 3-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Madison have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Milby struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.2 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Madison came out on top in a nail-biter against Milby in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 56-54. Will Madison repeat their success, or does Milby have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
