After flying high against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] last Thursday, the Medicine Valley Raiders came back down to earth. Medicine Valley took a hard 53-36 fall against Southwest on Saturday. Medicine Valley has not had much luck with Southwest recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Medicine Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Stella Heapy. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Heapy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Remmi Stout, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Southwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyra Nelms led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Atleigh Nelms was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Medicine Valley's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Southwest, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
Medicine Valley on the road again on Monday and play against Bertrand at 4:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Bertrand is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Southwest, they will be playing at home against Dundy County-Stratton on Tuesday.
