Ava McLeod was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Guilamina Yost, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Madelyn Glynn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Advanced Math & Science Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Doherty Memorial has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.46 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They came up short against Wachusett Regional, falling 13-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Highlanders have suffered since April 16th.
Doherty Memorial saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Panagiotou, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Advanced Math & Science Academy pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Doherty Memorial, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Advanced Math & Science Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .445. However, it's not like Doherty Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Advanced Math & Science Academy took their victory against Doherty Memorial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
