The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 108-58 win over Lafayette. Norfolk Collegiate's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Norfolk Collegiate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rashaad Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 assists. The match was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan Chatman, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 6 assists.
When it comes to explaining why Lafayette lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jarquez Garrett. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. Garrett scored a full 25.9% of Lafayette's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Wayne Santos Jr was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Norfolk Collegiate pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Lafayette, their defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-1.
Norfolk Collegiate will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Hickory at 7:30 p.m. Hickory will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Norfolk Collegiate is ranked fifth). As for Lafayette, they will head out on the road to face off against Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
