Chattanooga Central is 9-1 against Notre Dame since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pounders will square off against the Fighting Irish at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chattanooga Central has four straight victories, Notre Dame has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Chattanooga Central proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Oak Ridge 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pounders have posted since May 1, 2024.
Kaitlynn Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Chattanooga Central got a big performance out of Sanaa Townsend, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Kennedi Sabb was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame lost 13-1 to South Pittsburg on Tuesday.
Notre Dame saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Scarlett Hughes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Chattanooga Central's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Notre Dame's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chattanooga Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Notre Dame, though, as they've been averaging 11.8 hits. Given Chattanooga Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Fighting Irish will need to find a way to close that gap.
Chattanooga Central took their victory against Notre Dame in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pounders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
