Baseball Game Preview: St. David's Warriors vs. Cary Christian Knights

For the second straight game, St. David will face off against Cary Christian. St. David's will host Cary Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

St. David's is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since April 5, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Cary Christian by a score of 5-3. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost three in a row.

Grey McMahon was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

McMahon wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Smith Goracke, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Goracke snagged this season.

Cary Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. St. David's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. David's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cary Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts.
