Centauri has gone a perfect 3-0 against Rocky Ford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Centauri is taking a road trip to challenge Rocky Ford at 10:00 a.m. Centauri is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Centauri's tournament run continued when they took on Peyton on Saturday. Centauri fell 7-2 to Peyton.
Centauri saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Buhr, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Rocky Ford got themselves on the board against Florence on Tuesday, but Florence never followed suit. They blew past the Huskies 20-0. The high-scoring effort was just what the Meloneers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Shayne Gonzales made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Rocky Ford let Fabian Ortega and Adam Martinez run wild. Ortega scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Martinez got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Ortega is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isiah Vazquez-Gallegos, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Rocky Ford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Florence only posted an OBP of .100.
Rocky Ford's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for Centauri, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Centauri has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Rocky Ford struggles in that department as they've averaged .514. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Centauri's way against Rocky Ford in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Centauri made off with an 11-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centauri since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
