The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Pagosa Springs, falling 64-28. Montezuma-Cortez has struggled against Pagosa Springs recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Montezuma-Cortez's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Trey Hall, who scored 13 points, and Easton Hartsoe who scored six points.
Pagosa Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ridge Wilson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Harper, who scored 16 points.
Montezuma-Cortez has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Pagosa Springs, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montezuma-Cortez's road trip will continue as they head out to face Bayfield at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Montezuma-Cortez is facing Bayfield at the right time seeing as Bayfield is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Pagosa Springs, they will head out on the road to challenge Centauri at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Centauri is on a three-game streak of home wins, Pagosa Springs a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
