Camarillo has gone a perfect 10-0 against Oak Park recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Scorpions will challenge the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Camarillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Camarillo fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Simi Valley on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 5-4. The Scorpions' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Janelle Rillo-Figueroa was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Rillo-Figueroa was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run.
In other batting news, Laynee Flores made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oak Park ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Grace 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won three in a row.
Erika Samuels tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Isabella Jauregui was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Scupine, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Camarillo's record is now 19-4. As for Oak Park, their record now sits at 11-13.
Everything went Camarillo's way against Oak Park in their previous meeting back in April, as Camarillo made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Scorpions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
