Basketball Recap: Middle Creek Comes Up Short

Middle Creek lost against Green Level back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Middle Creek Mustangs took a 51-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Green Level Gators. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Gators are ranked 129th).

Despite the loss, Middle Creek still got an impressive performance from Alysia Pergerson, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten steals. The contest was Pergerson's third in a row with at least 19 points. Koa Pa'u was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 boards.

Green Level was led to victory by Claire Barber and Stella Eckhart. Barber went 10-for-20 on her way to 26 points along with eight steals and five rebounds, while Eckhart posted 12 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those eight steals gave Barber a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gwen Boles, who earned two points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Middle Creek has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Green Level, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middle Creek will challenge Panther Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Green Level, they will face off against Apex Friendship at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Green Level is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
