WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight recap October 8, 2013
Central Catholic extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week by beating Pine-Richland, 49-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Shaler Area moved up to 453 from 479 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Titans climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Seneca Valley 54-14.
Jeff Clemens and Isaac Weaver gave North Allegheny a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Clemens threw for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Weaver ran for 112 yards.
On the heels of Ben DiNucci and Conner Slomka, the Rams have had great success on offense. DiNucci leads the league in passing with 1,252 yards, while Slomka has rushed for 939 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Tigers' Elijah Zeise, with 530 yards on 26 catches.
Slomka of the Pine-Richland is only 61 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 142 carries Slomka has accumulated 939 yard this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Central Catholic takes on North Allegheny. As it stands, Terry Totten's team is in first, while Art Walker's team is in third.
