The Struthers Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Canfield Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Struthers couldn't beat Ursuline on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the sixth inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Fighting Irish by a score of 9-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Fighting Irish: they've now lost five in a row.
Eddie Bradley and JR Hovanec stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bradley went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Hovanec went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Drew Chizmar was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canfield). Everything went their way against Jefferson County on Saturday as they made off with a 16-8 victory.
Sean Harrington looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Zain Jadallah was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jake Dovich also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Canfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Struthers' loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Canfield, their record now sits at 8-4.
Struthers might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Canfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
