The Dos Pueblos Chargers will head out to take on the Rio Mesa Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dos Pueblos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Dos Pueblos fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Saugus on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Centurions by a score of 5-3. The Chargers' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Juliana Brunner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Zella Cassidy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Rio Mesa won against Buena on Tuesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Spartans came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-1. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three contests in a row.
Analia Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Lopez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Jocelyn Gomez was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Rihyana Alvarez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Rio Mesa's record now sits at 13-5. As for Dos Pueblos, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Dos Pueblos hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rio Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Dos Pueblos skirted past Rio Mesa 3-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
