Garden City is 8-2 against the Redskins since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Garden City Buffaloes will look to defend their home court against the Liberal Redskins at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Garden City is ranked 179th, while the Redskins are ranked 191st).
Last Friday, Garden City escaped with a win against the Fire by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Garden City.
Meanwhile, Liberal pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Great Bend. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Liberal in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Liberal had strong showings from James Fieser, who scored 20 points along with two steals, and Zayden Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Martinez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was J. Brooks Kappelmann, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Garden City's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Liberal, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10.
Garden City took their win against the Redskins when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 74-50. Will Garden City repeat their success, or do the Redskins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
